Search and Find! Tool for Windows Mobile

Download SSEFind!Setup.cab

One feature I was always missing on Windows Mobile is a a well working find function.

The builtin search program does search, but somehow it does not manage to find all the files and/or does not tell me where they are.

So I sat down and write SSEFind! - a little program which does not only search, but also finds...

Find

There is not commercial release yet. The version available will run without any license requirements until the end of this year.

Overview of the functions/procedures:

  • Select folder to start search
  • enter or select wildcard
  • hit Find

The program now starts a thread and searches the folder you chose with all its subfolders.

searching...

Searching starts in the bottom half of the screen, all finds are listed. This search can be aborted if you have found what you were looking for.

found

You can now scroll in the list of finds. The files properties (folder, modification time, size) are displayed in the upper half.

You may now use the following functions with the found file:

  • View
open the folder where the file was find in explorer
  • Info
see creation, modification and last access time
  • Run
    open the file

You may also use keys to select the functions:

  • Enter or r for the Run function
  • i for Info
  • e or v for Directory View

Hit Next Search to search again.

As long as the found list is visible, you can also use the context menu

Download SSEFind!Setup.cab

To install copy the file on your device and execute it there. It just uses 71kB on your device and requires CF.Net 2.0 but no additional files (one executable - that's all)

If you'd like to help me with the commercial release of this utility, you may answer the following questions:

  • what device did you use it with? Where did it work - where did it fail?
  • did it work to your satisfaction?
  • is the user interface as expected? Suggestions for improvements?
  • would you be willing to pay for this program? Suggest a price
  • what else should it be doing? Feature requests?

Note: The program runs unrestricted until December 31st 2008. Later versions might require a license or registration.
